SCLD Public Records Requests

Spokane County Library District provides access to its public records under the provisions of the Washington State Public Records Act (RCW 42.56) and its Public Records Policy. The act defines "public record" to include any "writing containing information relating to the conduct of government or the performance of any governmental or proprietary function prepared, owned, used, or retained" by the agency.

All records maintained by Spokane County Library District are available for public inspection unless specifically exempted by law. For instance, information related to library use by individual customers is exempt. You are entitled to access public records, under reasonable conditions, and copies of those records can be provided upon paying copying costs. You do not have to explain why you want the records. However, specific information may be necessary to process your request.

The District provides access to existing public records in its possession but is not required to collect information or organize data to create a record not existing at the time of the request. Use of the District’s Public Records Request form is the best way to make a request; however its use isn’t required for a request to be processed.
