Spring’s Here! April Programs Are for Exploring, Reading, Learning & Growing

All Ages
The iNaturalist: City Nature Challenge gives citizen scientists of all ages a chance to learn how to use the iNaturalist app, including taking photographs and submitting nature sightings, just in time for Earth Day 2025.
During the presentation Daughter of Dachau: Sharing the Voice of Her Father, Clarice Wilsey outlines the discovery of her father’s letters and reads graphic excerpts that her father wrote from the Dachau concentration camp, where he and 26 other physicians treated survivors after their liberation.
Adults
During the Horizon 2050 Workshop: Long-Range Transportation Planning for Spokane County, you can learn about transportation data, identified regional needs, and major projects as well as share your thoughts about local transportation needs and participate in educational transportation activities.
The popular Ice Age Floods Institute presentations return with two new topics in April: Mapping the Pacific Northwest’s Glacial Legacy and How the Ice Age Floods Changed the Course of the Palouse River.
April’s online author talks include the highly acclaimed, New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult, Smithsonian Gardens Greenhouse Horticulturalist Matthew Fleming, and bestselling author of action and suspense Gregg Hurwitz.
Adults and families with tweens and teens can take a trek with the Medical Lake Geology Walk to learn about the lake’s history and natural science and to help take water samples and pick up trash. Gardeners can discover Edible Native Plants & How to Grow Them.
Bring your gently used arts and crafts supplies and exchange them for something that other community members have brought to the Crafting & Art Supply Swap. You can also try out a variety of creative technology during Maker Open Hours in The Lab at North Spokane Library.
Gain a basic foundation for what an estate plan entails and why it is important during Estate Planning Basics. Our new Take-and-Shred Event helps people to safely dispose of documents containing their personal information, with our partner DeVries Business Services.
Head to a Memory Café for music, games, and activities, held monthly at Spokane Valley Library and weekly at North Spokane Library.

Teens
Teens can explore interests and have fun at these upcoming events:

Kids & Families
If you haven’t already, sign up for the Game Quest Reading & Activity Challenge (ages 2–14) to earn prizes for reading and completing activities.

During Library Ninja Warrior Competition (grades K–5), see if you can outsmart and outmaneuver your fellow competitors in library challenges. Design a bug catcher to use at home and in a yard or garden, during 3D Printing: Bug Catchers (kids 8+ & their adults) and then submit your design to be 3D printed at the library. Dig into some dirt at Gardening for Kids (grades K–5), and learn about plants and their lifecycles, plus take home a plant starter to care for and watch grow.
Other engaging programs for kids and/or families include Thinking Money for Kids, Make a Tabletop Miniature Golf Hole, Junior Maker Drop-In Hours, LEGO Free Play, Terrific Tuesdays, Wonder Wednesdays, STEAM-Themed Thursdays, and Homeschool Hodgepodge.
Young children enjoy stories and activities at our weekly Play & Learn Storytime programs. Parents and caregivers can watch Picture Book Chat to see some of the best new books that early learners enjoy reading with them.
